Enoki Hoop – 4″

Make room for mushrooms Technically mushrooms are not plants – they are fungi, which are closer to animal than plant (whoa) And they are delicious! Enoki originate in Eastern asian, and like other decomposers they grow on dead or dying trees. They prefer the stumps of Chinese hackberry tree, and can also be found on persimmon, ash, or mulberry trees. If you don’t have room in your garden plot, you can even grow them in a jar!

This piece is backed by felt and took 11.25 hours to sew.

This collection is inspired by permaculture, otherwise known as companion planting, which ensures a biodiverse garden and maximizes symbiotic relationships. I am a self-taught artist but my work is informed by a Master’s degree in Environmental Conservation Education from NYU and the drive to understand our relationship to the global environment.
