Crewel and Kind 01

“Passion project” doesn’t quite encapsulate the 3+ year project in front of me in this picture. What started as a memorial to my Italian grampa has evolved into a full fledged campaign for the first food garden in Central Park. I don’t know if any one person can dent the historical conservation mission in the Central Park Conservancy, but I know this piece of art can go viral with a message – in the face of climate change, and inaction or interaction on the part of our government leaders, we must look to our own communities to push for a healthier, more local food system. I cannot imagine a better place to start planting food than in New York’s historic Central Park. If we cannot adapt the built environment to the needs of our future, our cities will become empty monuments to our past. Please see my instagram for more background on this work.

I have never taken a class in embroidery, sewing, or textile work but I have always been fascinated with fiber art. My art is informed by a Master’s degree in Environmental Conservation Education; it is driven by a need to understand and to communicate the beauty of the Nature and the built environment. All works here are originals.
